There are plenty of dangers to be aware of on the roads in Texas, but perhaps no danger is as reckless and unpredictable as drunk drivers. Despite decades of public awareness campaigns designed to make us all aware of the exact danger that could arise from getting behind the wheel of a vehicle while intoxicated – to the driver and all others on the roads – drunk driving is still a major problem in America.

National statistics are grim

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, a whopping 30 people per day in America die in motor vehicle accidents that involve drunk driving. As the NHTSA notes, that is almost one death every 50 minutes. That statistic alone should be a shocker to anyone in Texas, but there is more. Extrapolated out for an entire year, the NTHSA statistics show that in one year alone – 2018 – over 10,500 people died in America in drunk driving crashes. In the overall number motor vehicle accident fatalities of all causes, the NHTSA notes that drunk driving is responsible for approximately 29 percent of the total.

When people get behind the wheel of a vehicle while intoxicated, they are both committing a crime and jeopardizing the lives and well-being of all of those who cross their paths. Injuries caused by drunk drivers can change lives – not just of individuals, but of entire families.

Remedies are available

Anyone who has been injured in a motor vehicle accident that was caused by a drunk driver may have legal options to pursue. A personal injury lawsuit could lead to the recovery of financial compensation. Of course, every car accident is unique, so our readers who may have a potential claim should probably get more information about their own situation.
